RCSCC Sir Francis Drake is a free program for youth 12-18 years old. It runs September to June, on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-9:00pm.

Cadets learn leadership, citizenship, seamanship, drill, marksmanship and music.

Uniforms

- new cadets are to wear a plain white shirt, black pants, and black shoes. No need to purchase items; do your best with what you have. 

- 1 RCSCC Drake baseball cap will be issued to each cadet. This is theirs to keep. 

- All other uniform parts issued to a cadet are to be returned in good condition once they are finished the program.

Cutlass

The cutlass demonstraion team is under the command of Lt(N) Wells. 

The team currently practices Sundays 3:30-5:00pm.

Band

RCSCC Drake is part of a mass-band with NLCC Hawkins and RCSCC Whitby. 

They are under the command of Lt(NL) Smith and CI Wells.

The band currently practices Sundays 12:30-3:00pm.

Range

Range is commanded by Lt(N) Wells, CI Murray, and CV Asselstine.

They currenlty practice Sundays from 9:30am-12:00pm.

Cadets that participate in range practice are eligable to try out for the Range competition team.

 

Biathalon

RCSCC Drake cadets may participate in biathalon training and competition directed by Lt(N) Williams with RCSCC Whitby

Summer Camps

Cadets can be selected for various local and national courses during July and August:

  • Introductory Courses: 2- to 3-week introductory camps for level 2+ cadets, focusing on seamanship, basic sailing, and marksmanship.
  • Advanced Courses: example, 4-week advanced Small Craft Coxswain training
  • Staff Cadets: Paid summer employment for senior cadets (16-18 years old) to serve as instructors, mentors, or support staff. 

Fundraising

Cadets are required to participate in fundraising throughout the year. 

While the program is entirely free to families, it does require a healthy budget to run!

- Tagging happens once in the spring and once in the fall.

        - cadets will be assigned a partner and supervisor, then be posted at a local business to offer promotional material to their customers, with the goal of recieving donations.
